What is Neuroblastoma?

Neuroblastoma is the most common cancer in infants and represents approximately 10% of all childhood cancers. Approximately 700 children are diagnosed with neuroblastoma each year in North America alone. Neuroblastoma can be very difficult to detect, which often means that the cancer is essentially untreatable by the time of diagnosis. Despite aggressive treatment, the survival rate of advanced stage neuroblastoma of children who are a year or older is less than 30%.

Not surprisingly, current treatments for neuroblastoma and all childhood cancers were designed for adults and can be highly toxic for children, causing significant long-term health issues for the majority of survivors.
